Test the System

Note: When a system test is initiated from the keypad, power to the receiver is reduced by 10%.

The Walk Test allows you to test hardwired protection devices connected to system zones. You physically trip each device during the test.

The Wireless Check-In Test allows you to test communication between supervised wireless protection devices and the panel. The panel automatically verifies each wireless transmitter, so you do not need to physically trip each device.

The PIR Test verifies the operation of compatible PIR detectors (1120, 1120DT, 1122, 1126, and 1127). When enabled, the PIR LED flashes each time motion is detected for up to 30 minutes. This is a local test only, and no messages are sent to the monitoring center.

Before You Begin

  • Start a test within 30 minutes of resetting the panel.

  • Ensure all programmed areas are disarmed if you are performing a Walk Test. If any area is armed, the Walk Test does not start and SYSTEM ARMED displays.

Panic Button Testing

If Panic Supervision is enabled in System Options, you can test the panic button on any programmed key fob during a Walk Test. When the panic button is pressed, the receiver receives a verification message.

Perform a Walk Test

Step 1: Choose Test Options
  1. Reset the panel by momentarily placing a jumper on the RESET header.

  2. Enter 8144 (DIAG) at the keypad. WALK TEST displays for 4 seconds. If the system is monitored and the communication type is network, the system sends a System Test Begin report to the monitoring center.

  3. Select any of the following zones to test:

    • BG (Burglary) – Includes all hardwired NT, DY, EX, A1, and A2 zones

    • FI (Fire) – Includes all hardwired FI and FV zones.

    • PN (Panic) – Includes all hardwired PN, HU, and EM zones

    • SV (Supervisory) – Includes all hardwired SV zones

  4. An asterisk (*) next to a zone type indicates it is selected for testing. Press the corresponding Select key or area again to deselect the zone type.

  5. After selecting all the zone types you want to test, press CMD to go to the next option.

  6. Select a Bell Action. This option allows the panel bell, burglary bell, or both to turn ON, then OFF each time a zone is tripped (opened or shorted). Choose one of the following options:

    • NO – No bell output action.

    • YES – Turn on any bell output for 2 seconds during Walk Test.

    • PULS – Turn on any bell output for 1/4 second. Any LX-Bus device output turns on for 1.6 seconds due to the polling cycle.

  7. Press CMD.

Step 2: Perform the Test

During the Walk Test, trip each zone device or button on the system for 1 to 2 seconds.

During normal operation, you do not need to hold the zone for 2 seconds for PN zone types. During the Walk Test, hold the panic button for 1 to 2 seconds because the zone requires additional time to report while the system is in test mode.

Each time a zone is tripped, verify the following:

  • The keypad increments the zone count when the selected zone is opened or shorted.

  • The keypad sounds a two-second buzzer.

  • The panel sounds the alarm bells according to the configured Bell Action.

  • A Sensor Reset occurs when an FI, FV, or SV zone is tripped.

If Enhanced Zone Test is set to YES, a Verify message is sent when the zone trip occurs instead of at the end of the Walk Test.

  • For FI, FV, or SV zone types, the Verify message is sent when the zone is initially tripped.

  • For all other zone types, the Verify message is sent when the zone restores

This allows the monitoring center to count the number of devices on each zone.

Step 3: End the Test

Select END to stop the Walk Test. You can also allow the Walk Test to end automatically after 20 minutes of inactivity.

When 5 minutes remain on the Walk Test timer, the keypad displays TEST END WARNING. If no additional test zone trips occur, the test ends.

When the Walk Test ends, the panel performs the following actions:

  • A final Sensor Reset occurs.

  • A System Test End message is sent to the receiver.

  • Verify and Fail messages are sent for each zone under test.

  • Any faulted zones display on the keypad.

Key fobs do not send failure messages in order to prevent functioning key fobs that are not present at the time of the test from being reported as MISSING.

Step 4: Review Failed Zones

After the Walk Test ends, review any failed zones.

  • For each zone that did not trip at least once during the Walk Test (excluding key fobs), all keypads with matching Display Areas display the zone name and number and sound a one-second buzzer.

  • Press CMD to display the next failed zone.

  • If a selected 24-hour zone (FI, PN, or SV) is faulted when the Walk Test ends, the keypad displays a trouble condition for that zone regardless of the programmed open or short message. A zone trouble report is also sent to the receiver.

Perform a Wireless Check-In Test

Step 1: Choose Test Options
  1. Reset the panel by momentarily placing a jumper on the RESET header.

  2. Enter 8144 (DIAG) at the keypad. WALK TEST displays for 4 seconds. If the system is monitored and the communication type is network, the system sends a System Test Begin report to the monitoring center.

  3. Press CMD until you see WLS PIR, then select WLS to automatically test wireless transmitter communications. This includes all wireless devices except transmitters programmed for a supervision time of 0 and key fobs.

  4. Press CMD to go to the next option.

Step 2: Perform the Test

Once the test begins, you do not need to walk to each zone location. The Wireless Check-In Test automatically verifies that wireless transmitters programmed for supervision are communicating with the panel.

  • The test runs for 5 minutes.

  • During the test, each transmitter checks in multiple times.

  • A timer displays on the keypad while the test is in progress.

  • A transmitter passes the test if it checks in 3 or more times.

  • When the test ends, the keypad displays the test results, including any transmitters that failed.

The keypad displays the following information during the test:

Display

Description

CC

Number of wireless zones that successfully checked in.

TT

Total number of supervised wireless zones expected to check in.

Step 3: End the Test

Select END to stop the test. You can also allow the test to end automatically after 5 minutes of inactivity.

When the test ends, the following occurs:

    • Normal wireless zone processing resumes.

    • If all transmitters successfully check in, the CC and TT values match.

    • If a transmitter has multiple zones (for example, an 1101 or 1114), all associated zones are included in the counts.

    • Any failed wireless zones display on the keypad.

Step 4: Review Failed Zones

For the Wireless Check-In test, failed wireless zones only display on the keypad, and Zone Verify and Zone Fail reports are not sent to the monitoring center.

Perform a PIR Test

  1. Reset the panel by momentarily placing a jumper on the RESET header.

  2. Enter 8144 (DIAG) at the keypad. WALK TEST displays for 4 seconds. If the system is monitored and the communication type is network, the system sends a System Test Begin report to the monitoring center.

  3. Press CMD until you see WLS PIR, then select PIR to allow the installer to verify the 1120, 1120DT, 1122, 1126, or 1127 operation.

  1. Press CMD to go to the next option.

  2. When the test begins, the PIR LED flashes each time motion is detected for up to 30 minutes.

This is a local test only and no messages are sent to the monitoring center.
